Los Angeles

Well the flight to LA was good with V Australia, it certainly didn't feel like 13 hours. We were awake for more than 30 hours though before going to bed. I held out for as long as I could, which was 6:30pm USA time.

LA is a huge city and really spread out. We decided that the jump on jump off bus would be the best way to see everything. LA is pretty tough without a car, so this was the next best option.

We went down Sunset Blvd, Santa Monica Blvd, Melrose Ave, not at all what you think it should look like, saw Beverly Hills, exactly what you think it should look like with the palm tree lined streets and gorgeous houses, Hollywood and the Downtown area. Stopped off at Santa Monica Pier and had lunch at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and strolled along the walk of fame and saw all the stars names in the footpath.

Our accommodation at the bed and breakfast is just perfect and the owners are so lovely. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Off to Vegas on Tuesday at 7:30am to win all of my trip costs back :-)

Up Up & Away...To The USA

Two more sleeps until I'm leeeeeeeeeeaving on a jet plaaaaaaaaaaaaane!!!!

I missed Tuesdays blog post as who knew organising an overseas trip could take up sooooo much of your time. Honestly, it feels like a full-time job right now. Once I pick up some USD and a travel money card tomorrow, I'll feel as though I've finally got things in order.

My big sissy is coming with Cam and I and it's her first trip overseas. I'm very excited that I can share it with her and that I have someone to shop with of course.

So here is a taste of my itinerary.

New York Knicks

Halloween in NYC

Ice Hockey

But one of the most exciting things is that I'm going to attend an Etsy Craft Lab Craft Night!!!

I KNOW! How awesome is that. The other exciting thing is that you too can join me, without spending a dime. You can watch the Etsy Craft Nights on the web. All the details are on the link, so check it out and come hang with me and the yankees on the 1st November 4pm-8pm.

I will do my best to blog a little over the next three weeks and share my USA adventures with you all. If nothing else I will post some photos until I get back to fill you in on all the details.

I hope you miss me :-)

Dress Making Inspiration

It's been a long time since I made myself something to wear. I've cut out a 50's dress I've yet to sew together and I really really want to make this skirt that features on Amy Butlers promo video. Like I mean REALLY want it. You know that feeling you get when you find something you really like and just have to do it/get it now! That drug that seems to overtake you and it's even worse when you're hungry at the same time. That's how I feel about this skirt. There's no pattern, so I'm trying to work it out myself.

Yesterday in Peppermint Magazine I saw a girl who, after watching the movie "Julie & Julia", was inspired to do something similar. She's revamping a dress a day that she has found in an op shop for $1, into a funky wearable fashion item. That's 365 dresses people, I can't even finish one!

I noted down the blog address to take a look and funnily enough, when I downloaded Sister Diane's latest Crafty Pod, she has done a podcast interview with Marissa from New Dress A Day.

Marissa has made some very funky numbers out of some very ghastly dresses indeed. She explains how she alters each one, so that you too can do it. Marissa mentions the op shop in LA she likes to get her dresses from........guess who's going to LA this month!!! Mwah!

So, as well as my New York shopping bonanza, I plan to visit the same op shop and see what I can find to have a go at vamping up. I'll be on the hunt for some items that have a lot of potential but just need a bit of lovin from the Bernina.

Adding A Magnetic Snap Tutorial

Well here it is peeps... my first video tutorial.

Click on this link to view the video - Magnetic Snap Tutorial

I've done a quick video tutorial on how to add a magnetic snap to your bag.
You can buy magnetic snaps from spotlight and other fabric shops but they are usually quite expensive per snap. I buy mine from leather shops such as Birdsall Leather Craft (Sydney) or perhaps Lefflers (Melbourne).
You can buy them by the box (100) if you are going to use them all the time; it works out cheaper.

Let me know what you think. I always sound like a 2 year old on tape but there's nothing I can do about that :-)

New Clutches For Friday Eye Candy

I missed Mondays post I know, sorry. I was lapping up the sun on the deck in Tenterfield with a cuppa in my hand and the sun on my face and my sweet mamma beside me.
Actually I only did this a few times a day and the rest of the time I was a very busy busy bee.

Embarrassing, unattractive photo peeps but there you have it, real and raw

I made three Fortune Cookies and two clutches, showed the ride on mower who was boss and wippa snipped until it wouldn't wippa snip no more. I like to do the yard work in my Dads clothes when I go to Tenterfield, hence the huge T-shirt and hat.
I was singing along to my i-pod at the top of my lungs, thinking the noise of the mower would drown me out.......um......not the case according to Mum when I finished.

How cool are the cockies!! So Australiaaaaaaaana

I can't wait till the day Cam and I have a lovely house with some big gum trees and a vegie patch that comes with it's own peace and quiet. It is just so much more relaxing than city apartment living with loud mouth neighbours upstairs who feel the need to party every Friday Saturday and Sunday night.

The other week I had a meeting with Diane from Crafty Pod. If you haven't heard of the Crafty Pod yet you have a whole lot of listening to catch up on.
We chatted about my blog and ways I can improve on it and to find out if you are actually out there....reading :-).

She suggested I start adding some tutorials on a regular basis, which I am going to try and do. Tutorials take a lot of work and time, which I don't have a lot of at the moment, but I will do my best for ya.

So.... what I would like to know is what tutorials you would like to see on my blog? I will then do my best to get them to you, whether it be from me or a link from someone else who made it.
It can be a certain technique, like how to make a bag fatter (depth) or put in a snap or even something on your machine you aren't sure about. Let me have it people!

Sewing Up Stock In The Bush

I'm hanging out at my mums place in Tenterfield for a week. It's about three hours south of Brisvegas.
Seven acres of beautiful big trees, birds chirping, mountains in the distance and cups of tea on the verandah in the sun; make it the perfect place to do some sewing.

I'm building up my stock for Christmas as it's getting low and I'll be away for three weeks in the USA. Which is only three weeks away AGHHHH!!! So much to get done before then.

Anyway, let's avoid the fact that I should be sewing like a mad woman right now and check out the stash of vintage I found in mums linen cupboard. Oh so pretty and she said I can have them, woo hoo.
